This area was historically famous for tobacco production on steep slopes using thatch. This traditional agricultural practice, incorporating thatch, is still preserved today.
Culture associated with the local environment
Thatched houses remain, and fields and private homes are located on top of stone walls that extend along the contour lines. Hade remains on the stone walls, and the culture of drying foods continues to be passed down. The stone walls and fields built in steep-slope hamlets, together with thatched structures, support highly sustainable agriculture in harmony with the environment.
Landscape in harmony with people and environment
It is a large-scale hamlet in the steep-slope area known as Sora, representative of the Tokushima Tsurugi Mountain range. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the Keka hamlet, which extends across a slope at elevations of 150–550 m with an elevation difference of approximately 400 m. The landscape shaped by the four seasons is rich.
